About me
My name is Bethany. I am a counsellor and social worker who specialises in neurodivergence across the lifespan, as well as in working with children and families.
I have a background in community based therapeutic case management with children and teens experiencing mental health concerns. In this fully outreach role I had to get creative about not just where, but also how therapy happened, and passionately believe in making therapy fit the client, instead of making the client fit the therapy.
I have also seen the importance of working with children and young people within a whole of family context, and feel that supporting parents is an essential part of intervention with children.
My experience in education support in both mainstream and specialist settings showed me the gaps in services for children and young people who don't fit the 'typical' therapy client. I firmly believe that all people should be able to access affirming and tailored mental health support as a human right.
In recent years I have expanded my work to include adults and Employee Assistance Programme counselling. I have enjoyed this work, and have developed an interest in workplace issues. I have also seen the lack of neuro-affirming therapy available for adults, and the frustration that services are so often aimed at children, and have become passionate about providing therapy for anyone who feels like they are misunderstood or don't fit in.
